Shortly after the end of World War II Edwin R. Winter, a then-franchisee for Minneapolis-Moline tractors, received a call to assist in a train derailment in Hamburg, twenty miles south of his home base in North Collins, NY. Grain from the railroad cars had spilled. It was his job to clean it up and during the clean-up an idea took shape in his young creative mind. Shortly after that incident, Edwin Winter and his brother, Clarence, started Winter's Railroad Service, specializing in rail emergencies.
Over the years, the company has grown as its leadership changed from father to son (Marvin Winter), and recently to the third generations by Travis J. Winter when took the helm in spring of 2007.
